TitleTHE RESEARCH ON MERCURY BIOACCUMULATION IN SKIN PRODUCTS OF HUMAN AND ANIMALS ON URBANIZED AREAS
AutorJanusz Bolanowski, Zbigniew Dobrzański, Bożena Patkowska-Sokoła, Przemysław Pokorny, Wojciech Zawadzki
Pages3–9
Keywordstotal and assimilated mercury, hair, pelage, seta, wool, feathers
AbstractShow abstract
The research on mercury accumulation in hair of human, pelage of horses, cows, pigs and donkeys, wool of sheep and rabbits and feathers of hens were conducted. The content of total (unwashed samples) and assimilated (washed samples) Hg was determined using TMA-254 spectrophotometer. The highest amount of total and assimilated mercury was observed in samples of human hair (max 0.309 mg/kg). The biggest differences between total and assimilated content were in pigs pelage (77.8%) and in poultry feathers (60.0%). The total Hg content in analysed samples was in following order: human>dog>hen>rabbit>pig>horse>cow>donkey>sheep.

TitleTHE OCCURRENCE OF PARASITIC NEMATODES AT AUROCHSES RAISED IN THE FARM AND THEIR CONTROL AT THE USE IVERMECTIN
AutorKrzysztof Jasiński, Jarosław Pacoń, Wojciech Zawadzki
Pages11–16
Keywordsauroch, nematodes, control, ivermectin
AbstractShow abstract
The aurochs is a greatest wild mammal living in Europe. The investigation was passed on 10 aurochses both the sex and different age. In clinical examination was observed low gain in weigh at young animals, fall of the form and progressive weediness at full grown animals. In coprological examination was find great infection of gastro-intestinal nematodes (Trichostrongylidae and Trichuris sp.) in all aurochses and infection of lung nematodes (Dictyocaulus sp.). To the treatment was produced granulated fodder contain 0,6% ivermectin. After 10 days from the ivermectin application in no sample of the faeces one did not find eggs of gastro-intestinal nematodes and did not find larvas of lung nematodes. After 60 days from the ivermectin application was find single eggs of gastro-intestinal nematodes in seven sample. Single larvas of lung nematodes (Dictyocaulus sp.) was find in one sample.

TitleEFFECT OF MANNAN OLIGOSACCHARIDES APPLYING IN MILKREPLACER ON CALF GROWTH PERFORMANCE AND HEALTH
AutorStefania Kinal, Barbara Lubojemska
Pages17–28
Keywordsmannan oligosaccharides, calf rearing, immunity, immunoglobulins, blood
AbstractShow abstract
The aim of the study was to asses effect of mannan oligosaccharides applied in milkreplacer on calf growth performance and health. The calves which in milkreplacer were given mannan oligosaccharides in amount 2g/day/head showed higher daily gain, better feed efficiency rate and fecal score, than calves which mannan oligosaccharides in milkreplacer were not given. The value of serum proteinogram and calf immunity passive transfer were improved too by applied in milkreplacer mannan oligosaccharides.

TitlePREVALENCE AND INTENSITY OF GASTEROPHILUS SP. LARVAE IN HORSES FROM NORTH-EAST POLAND
AutorMonika Pawlas-Opiela, Zenon Sołtysiak
Pages29–36
Keywords Gasterophilus sp., prevalence, parasites of horses
AbstractShow abstract
Abstact. The objective of the present study was investigate the prevelance of Gasterophilus sp. larvae in Poland and characterize the parasitic invasion during one year. From the January to December 2006 years 513 horses were examined. On the whole 250 horses were infected by larvae of Gasterophilus sp. The mean prevalence of invasion was 48,73%. The highest monthly prevalence observed in November. Of the 33 horses examined 23 were infested with Gasterophilus sp. The mean intensity of larvae was 67, the highest was in January – 110. Two species of Gasterophilus were identifited with the following prevalence: G. intestinalis – 216 horses and G.nasalis – 8 horses. The 26 horses were infested by both species G. intestinalis, and G.nasalis. Prevalence and intensities were not affected by age, and sex. The larvae were found in the stomach and duodenum of adults and foals.

TitleDYNAMICS OF GASTROINTESTINAL HELMINTHOSIS IN CATTLE GRAZING GRASSLANDS OF „WARTA MOUTH” NATIONAL PARK
AutorAleksander Dobicki, Piotr Nowakowski, Marcin Popiołek, Krystian Troska
Pages37–47
Keywordsgastro-intestinal nematodes, beef cattle, free grazing
AbstractShow abstract
Research was performed on grasslands of National Park „Warta Mouth” in a cattle herd. Individual feces samples from 277 cows and 167 calves were analyzed during the years 2004-2006 using McMaster method. The patterns of EPG level in cattle herd were different in three consecutive years of research due to month of the year, length of stay on the same area of pasture, animals category (suckler cows vs. calves) and efficacy of de-worming before grazing season. The top values in suckler cows reached 700 EPG in September 2004, while in 2005 peak was recorded in June (ca 600 EPG) and in 2006 year maximum value diminished to only 40 EPG in September. The pattern of EPG values in calves generally followed the EPG values in cows. The effect of pasture sward had significant impact on EPG in cattle. Abrupt drop in EPG values was observed when cattle was moved to Phalaris arundinacea - Glyceria aquatica pasture in June. This self cure might be caused by the action of chemical compounds such as alkaloids and glycosides of these two grasses.

TitleEVALUATION OF HUCUL HORSE EXTERIOR BASED ON CHOSEN MORPHOMETRIC INDICES (PART I)
AutorJacek Bojarski, Henryk Kobryń, Marcin Komosa, Halina Purzyc
Pages49–64
KeywordsHucul horse, exterior, morphology index
AbstractShow abstract
The aim of the study was to evaluate the exterior of the Hucul horse on the basis of the following indices: boniness, girth’s circumference, trunk length (larger), trunk length (smaller), chest width and stockiness. The research was conducted on 341 Hucul horses of different sex and age which were qualified in 6 age groups. Each individual underwent measurement of the height at withers, girth’s circumference and oblique trunk length (smaller). The obtained results in separate age groups were subject to statistical analysis; the arithmetic mean, maximum, minimum and standard deviation were calculated , which served for calculation of separate indicators in further analysis. The body build proportions determined on the basis of some indicators are typical of the thickened and cart type of Hucul horses. In few cases they display the characteristics similar to horses of noble breeds.
