TitleTHE LOCATION AND THE DEVELOPMENT OF LARGE AREA SHOPPING CENTERS IN OLSZTYN USING THE HIGHEST AND BEST USE LAND PRINCIPLES
AutorAnna Cellmer
Pages5–14
KeywordsLarge surface areas shopping centers, highest and best land use, spatial analyses, model of the potential, Huff's model, the optimum-location.
AbstractShow abstract
Commercial objects (Larger Shopping Areas (LSA)) developed within the area of the town were the subject of this study as standard companies for the global network development phenomenon. Examinations include three-dimensional analyses of this kind of property and determination of a method for their optimal location within the area of Olsztyn. The analysis was based on a model of potential and models of probability using the Huff model and its modification. The obtained results and conclusions are useful in town-and-country planning.

TitleDevelopment the Information Technology branch in „eastern countries” cities
AutorMarek Kułak
Pages15–25
Keywordsinformatics' revolution, informative society, informative economy.
AbstractShow abstract
The aricle describes the society of information and the forces due to which this society is shaped. The article examines the stages of data processing revolution. It also shows to what extend information and knowledge have an impact on shaping the present economy. It presents the possibilities of cities the so called "eastern wall" and it explains why these possibilities are limited. This article shows if the IT provides the so called "eastern wall" with an opportunity to remove and to stop deepen the differences that have arisen for many years.

TitleThe options of state agriculture transformation according to the evolution of the agricultural property of the State Treasury
AutorPiotr Michał Kosmęda
Pages27–36
Keywordsstate agriculture, restructuring, privatization, Agricultural Property Agency.
AbstractShow abstract
This study concerns issues connected with restructuring and privatization of the state agriculture system and focuses on the reasons for the creation of the Agricultural Property Stock of the State Treasury, the changing tasks and forms of activity of the Agricultural Agency of the State Treasury (Agricultural Property Agency) and an evaluation of past achievements. On this basis, it is proposed to limit the tasks of the Agency to the selling of the acquired property, preferably through unlimited oral auction. After selling the agricultural property by the state the Agency would be liquidated or transformed into a body that supports agricultural system changes, equipped with proper instruments.

TitleApplication of fuzzy logic to the identification and localization of the fringe areas of the city and the village
AutorAndrzej Biłozor
Pages37–51
Keywordsdevelopment of urban areas, fringe areas of the city and the village, fuzzy sets theory, fuzzy logic, degree of membership.
AbstractShow abstract
The spatial urban development greatly influences the areas situated on the border of the urban and rural areas and causes that these ways of land use overlap each other. These areas are called fringe areas between city and village and are treated as a temporary method of area use which precedes the phase of more intensive urbanization. The object of research was the fringe area of the city and the village and parameters characterizing it determined based on the ground analyses of current forms of the land utilization with the use of assumptions of the fuzzy sets theory.

TitleThe use of multitemporal serial photographs to evaluate changes in the method of spatial management near the domaniów water reservoir
AutorBogusława Kwoczyńska
Pages53–58
KeywordsKeywords: aerial photos, spatial management.
AbstractShow abstract
This paper presents the possibility of applying aerial photographs to evaluate changes in the method of spatial management in the land near the Domaniów water reservoir. To this purpose, 2 sets of photographs were used. The first of these sets, on the scale of 1: 26000, was made in 1997 – before the reservoir was filled with water and the second set was made in 2001 – after it was filled up with water. An analysis of these photographs shows the influence of the water reservoir on the neighboring land, particularly the changes that occurred after its filling.

TitleDISCUSSING THE LANDSCAPE WITHIN PROTECTED AREAS USING THE BIESZCZADY MOUTAINS AS AN EXAMPLE
AutorUrszula Litwin, Danuta Sochacka
Pages59–66
Keywordsnational and landscape parks, landscape, and environmental protection.
AbstractShow abstract
There are many environmental threats caused by urban development, modern technology and the progress of civilization. Owing to this fact, various protection forms were developed to protect areas with exceptional landscape amenities. In order to set up a hierarchy of values and a scale of needs in the range of prophylactic, maintenance and repair treatments, it is necessary to address the following three issues:
  1. dividing landscapes into areas showing similar characteristics;
  2. determining the degree of their transformation;
  3. landscape evaluation.
For the purpose of this study, the basis assumed was an analysis of landscapes within areas remaining under special protection. These areas were divided into sub-regions based on related characteristics; for each one, a degree of transformation was determined. Following this, preventative means, organization, protective and conservation measures are discussed. The areas in question are located within the Bieszczady Mountains Region, in which there is one national park, two landscape parks and fourteen nature reserves with protection zones. This study constitutes an initial phase of the entire project to be followed by a practical analysis of the landscape within the protected areas.

TitleEFFICIENCY OF A MUNICIPAL GREEN SYSTEM IN TERMS OF ITS RECREATIONAL FUNCTION
AutorAleksandra Lis
Pages67–82
Keywordsmunicipal green system, recreation, motivation process, green areas.
AbstractShow abstract
The subject of the present study is the efficiency of a municipal green system in terms of its recreational function. Confirmed psychological and sociological phenomena are the starting point of considerations in this study. In further parts of this study, subsequent problems showing the influence of these phenomena upon people's response and behavior in green areas and upon the social functioning of a green system are elaborated in terms of its recreational system. The considerations lead to a description of research methodology. The aim of this research is to identify the disadvantages of a municipal green system in the above-mentioned terms and activities aiming at system efficiency improvement. They are based upon an analysis of psychological and social mechanisms which have an influence upon decisions made, as a result of the motivation process, by city-dwellers, concerning the realization of a defined group of needs within the precincts of recreational green areas and upon spatial conditions analysis, by which this decision is conditioned.

TitleCONSTRUCTION OF A GEOSTATISTICAL MODEL USING RESIDUALS
AutorMałgorzata Renigier
Pages83–96
Keywordsresiduals from model, geostatistical model, stages of model building, nonlinearity and uncertainty in spatial analyses.
AbstractShow abstract
Spatial value diagnosis based on statistical modeling involving causative and effect rules is often incomplete and insufficient for correct conclusions and decision-making. The inclusion of the component unexplained by the model (residuals) to the construction of the model constitutes an essential complement of statistical formulae (deterministic) devoid of the element of uncertainty and randomization. The present article includes the problems connected with the construction of geostatistical model using a residuals component.
