The paper presents several methods of slopes reinforcement using anthropogenic materials, geosynthetics and bio-engineering methods. The case study to be presented proves that complex combination of slope engineering techniques influences the factor of safety of slopes significantly. The reinforcing materials used consisted of tires mattresses, waste material from landfill site, composition of geotextiles, geogrids and vegetation cover. The assessment of applied solution efficiency was conducted using numerical modeling and long term observations of the reinforced structures. The computation of factor of safety was conducted including all the geotechnical parameters of materials used. Furthermore, the research revealed that application of plants with geotextile and compost underlying significantly improved the slope stability conditions. The results of numerical analysis and comprehensive observation confirmed the correctness of combination of the methods applied. The computed factor of safety for bare slopes has significantly increased, and basically, no signs of failures were noticed at the site.

The national standards referring to ph floors indicates that in case deformable supports are used, when shear resistance of slab is verified and when values of tensile principal stresses are calculated additional shear stresses acting in transverse direction to floor span should be considered. Experimental tests conducted in VTT in Espoo and numerical analyses showed that size of non-rigid supports influence is dependent on several factors for example: depth of concrete filled cores, structural topping presence or element type support and geometry. This paper presents the computational scheme verifying shear resistance supported on non-rigid elements with consequences of missing this effect.

Strength of concrete play fundamental role in design engineering, construction, and development of reinforced concrete buildings. High quality of test results in investigations to estimate research material accurate is very important. The paper contains an analysis of calculation procedure for uncertainty of results and medium strength for cubical samples concrete. Expression of uncertainty in measurements gives possibility to compare test results obtained from different laboratory. The paper is addressed to engineers who carry on concrete compression tests and interpreted the results.

The paper presents the significance of structural uplift as geological barrier in the transport of pollution to the groundwater environment based on monitoring studies in the vicinity of the municipial “Otwock-Świerk” land-fill. The object is located in the Garwolin Plateau – a presently denudated morainic plateau formed during the Middle Polish Glaciations. The waste is located in the area where there are no Quaternary aquifer horizons of local or regional importance.
