TitleNUMERICAL MODELLING OF CUT-OFF WALLS EFFECTIVENESS AS VERTICAL BARRIER DURING THE DEEP PIT EXCAVATION DEWATERING
AutorEugeniusz Koda, Edward Wiencław
Pages3–15
Keywordsnumerical modeling, groundwaters flow, cut-off walls, deep pit dewatering
AbstractShow abstract
The influence of cut-off wall depth on dewatering process of deep pit excavation, pored to the high discharged aquifer, located in urbanized metropolitan area, is presented in the paper. The simulation was performed for designed “Rondo Daszyńskiego” Station of the second line of Warsaw Subway. The most unfavorable hydrogeological conditions were found nearby this Station. The considered project of the station construction assumes dewatering with depression wells inside area protected by cut-off walls to the depth of 10 m below bottom of pit excavation. Cut-off walls will create also vertical barrier surrounding the pit excavation. FEMWATER numerical program was used for simulation of the excavation dewatering and underground waters flow. In spite of the fact that different variants of cut-off walls depth were taken into account, flow prediction results in large discharge capacity and high depression of groundwater level. That can be danger for underground water volume and finally it causes buildings subsoil settlement. The disadvantage influence of excavation dewatering on trees plant growing on surrounding area can be also analyzed. Predicted results can make consider the decision of the station construction with the use of horizontal injection barrier in the zone surrounded with cut-off walls.

TitleTHE STABILITY ANALYSIS OF TIMOSHENKO BEAM ON ELASTIC FOUNDATION
AutorAgnieszka Dudzik, Paulina Obara
Pages17–29
Keywordsstability, critical force, elastic foundation, Timoshenko beam
AbstractShow abstract
The paper presents the analysis of Timoshenko beam on two-parameter elastic foundation. The differential equation for dynamic equilibrium of beam compressed by conservative axial force has been derived and its solution has been analyzed depending on mutual relationships between its coefficients. The exact stiffness matrix of the basic beam element has been derived formally, and by the power series expansion of this matrix in relation to the arguments of the functions occuring in it the stiffness matrix of working element with elastic foundation and constant axial force has been determined. It has been demonstrated that the FEM matrices obtained with the use of so-called physical shape functions are the linear approximation of the formally exact matrix. In addition, a formula for critical force is found for the case of free supported beam on elastic foundation.

TitleRELATIVE TURBULENCE INTENSITY IN A TWO- STAGE CHANNEL
AutorAdam P. Kozioł, Ewa Sawicka
Pages31–40
Keywordsopen channel, compound channel, turbulence, measurements
AbstractShow abstract
Analysis of the relative turbulence intensity of the present paper are based on the measurements of instantaneous of longitudinal velocities in a two-stage channel. It analyzes changes of turbulence intensity for one brimming in conditions established flow at regular intervals. A straight open channel with symmetrically complex trapezoidal cross section, 16 m long and 2.08 m wide was used for the laboratory tests. Measurements with electromagnetic liquid velocity meter were used with the rough overbank channels and the slopes of main channel. Changes of turbulence intensity in particular parts of the channel were evaluated. These investigations mainly have shown the following: values of intensity of turbulence increase from the surface of water in the direction to the bottom and the bed slopes. The results were compared with the ones described in literature.

AbstractShow abstract
The paper presents the results of the researches as well as the calculations concerning the thermal analysis (determination of a heat resistance ad the coefficient of heat conduction) of the external vertical partitions in the dwelling-houses of some chosen ecological farms in the Podkarpacie voivodship.
