TitleTHE GROWTH AND STATUS OF MYCORRHIZATION OF SEEDLINGS IN THE NATURAL REGENERATION OF SCOTS PINE CHEMICALLY TREATED AGAINST LOPHODERMIUM NEEDLE CAST
AutorMarta Aleksandrowicz-Trzcińska
Pages5–16
Keywordsectomycorrhiza, fungicide, natural regeneration, Lophodermium needle cast, Scots pine
AbstractShow abstract
The aim of the research was to evaluate the effect of two fungicides Falcon 460 EC and Gwarant 500 SC used to protect Scots pine against Lophodermium needle cast on the state of mycorrhizae and seedling growth. The subject of the research was natural regeneration of one-year-old pines in the Gostynin Forest Inspectorate. Falcon 460 EC was applied at a concentration of 0.15% and Gwarant 500 SC at a concentration of 0.5%, at a rate of 500 l/ha for both fungicides. The treatments were applied once or twice during the growing season. No occurrence of Lophodermium needle cast was detected either on treated or untreated pines. Only two mycorrhizal morphotypes were distinguished on pine seedling roots. The mycorrhization level of seedlings did not change after fungicide application. Both fungicides showed a limiting effect on the formation of complex structures: dychotomous and coralloid. None of the tested fungicides caused changes in seedling growth.

TitleCOMPARISON OF THE QUALITY OF RED DEER (CERVUS ELAPHUS L.) FROM DIFFERENT HUNTING GROUNDS IN NORTH-EASTERN POLAND
AutorAndrzej Gugołek, Vladimir Hanzal, Paweł Janiszewski
Pages17–27
Keywordsred reed, carcass weight, antler weight, quality
AbstractShow abstract
The quality of red deer stags, hinds and calves living in the Forest Division of Mrągowo was determined based on carcass weight as well as the weight and type of antlers. The animals were also compared to red deer inhabiting north-eastern Poland and other regions of the country. It was found that in the red deer population analyzed in this study the average carcass weight of stags, hinds and calves was 121.77 kg, 81.30 kg and 47.96 kg respectively. Average antler weight reached 2.93 kg, and stags carrying antlers with sixteen and twelve points dominated in the population (accounting for 28% and 23% respectively). In comparison with red deer from other hunting grounds in NE Poland, the animals harvested in the Forest Division of Mrągowo were characterized by higher carcass weight and antler complexity.

TitleUSAGE OF ECOSYSTEM FOREST FUNCTIONS EVALUATION FOR THE ASSESSMENT OF INVESTMENT PROJECT REALIZATION INFLUENCE TO FOREST ECOSYSTEMS ON THE EXAMPLE OF NATURAL PRESERVE KLÁNOVICKÝ LES – CYRILOV
AutorKatarína Domokošová, Petr Kupec, Alice Melicharová, Jiří Schneider, Ilja Vyskot
Pages29–38
Keywordsforest functions, ecological damage, protected area
AbstractShow abstract
Investment project for 18 holes golf resort realization is situated in the locality of Klánovický les. Locality is a part of the natural park Klánovice-Čihadla and supra-regional bio-centre Vidrholec. Prevailing area of locality creates the west part of natural preserve Klánovický les – Cyrilov. Cadastral area Klánovice is incorporated to the 1st proposed zone of suburban recreational forests of capital Prague. Evaluation of influence of proposed golf resort to forest ecosystems of locality Klánovický les was elaborated with usage the method Quantification and Evaluation of forest functions by Prof. Vyskot and coll. 2003. Used method evaluates all-society forest functions in ecosystem conception, where all groups of forest functions produced by forest ecosystem are on equivalent importance, but do not have equivalent quality. Ecosystem damage was carried out for main stand types (types of forest ecosystem) within the most presented functional (forest) management group (most presented site types) in all of the groups af all-society forest functions – bioproduction, ecological-stabilization, hydric-water management, edaphic-soil-conservation, social-recreation and sanitary-hygienic function. The resulting average ecological damage was financially expressed by CZK and transferred to Euro.

TitleDEFORMATION OF SCOTS PINE ROOT SYSTEM IN YOUNG PLANTATION AND THE THREAT BY ROOT PATHOGENS
AutorSzymon Lechtański, Wojciech Szewczyk
Pages39–43
Keywordsroot system, Scots pine, Armillaria, deformation
AbstractShow abstract
Deformation of root system because of flattening, rolling up or injuries during planting are the main causes which predispose the trees to parasitic infections, particularly in case of unfavourable weather conditions occurrence (drought, low temperatures). The objective of the presented work was the determination of the occurrence of pine root deformations in young Scots pine and to verify the presence of root pathogens. Observations were carried out on 20 areas localized in Scots pine stands of Ia class, from which 301 pieces of infected roots were collected. The obtained results confirmed the occurrence of root deformations. It was found that a high percentage of trees had deformed root systems caused by faulty methods of planting which might have contributed to the predisposition of the new trees in the period after planting.

TitleAXIAL AND RADIAL VARIATION IN THE PROPORTIONS OF SAPWOOD AND HEARTWOOD IN STEMS OF COMMON OAK (QUERCUS ROBUR L.) DEPENDING ON SITE TYPE, AGE CLASS AND SOCIAL CLASS OF TREE POSITION
AutorKatarzyna Kaźmierczak, Krzysztof Mańka, Marcin Nawrot, Witold Pazdrowski, Marek Szymański
Pages45–58
Keywordscommon oak (Quercus robur L.), sapwood, heartwood, fresh mixed forest (LMśw), fresh broadleaved forest (Lśw), timber
AbstractShow abstract
The study presents radial and axial variation in the proportions of sapwood and heartwood in stems of common oak growing under varied growth conditions. Collected material was analyzed in order to find factors affecting irregularity in sapwood and heartwood zones in stems of trees representing investigated populations. The proportion of sapwood and heartwood in the stem and the rate of heartwood formation are influenced by crown size and transpiration efficiency of trees, social class of tree position as well as site conditions. The proportions of sapwood and heartwood vary also between age classes of trees. A considerable effect on the width of the sapwood zone in trees was found for crown size. In this case correlations were positive in both analyzed age classes, although in age class III they were weaker than in age class IV.

TitleDENDROFLORA OF THE CITADEL PARK IN POZNAŃ
AutorTomasz Maliński, Dorota Wrońska-Pilarek
Pages59–70
Keywordsdendroflora, Citadel Park, Poznań
AbstractShow abstract
The dendroflora of the Citadel Park in Poznań comprises 167 taxons. The total of 22 900 trees were inventoried. The stands found in the park are dominated by species associated with the communities of fertile broad-leaved forests. The main tree species found in stands are Acer platanoides and Robinia pseudoacacia but Acer pseudoplatanus, A. campestre and Tilia cordata are also quite frequent. The total of 257 trees deriving from 29 taxons was recognised as valuable. Trees from Acer platanoides, Pyrus communis, Aesculus hippocastanum and Ulmus laevis attain considerable circumferences.
